7. The “X” in FIX stands for “X-ecute our Fulcrum strategy”

8. The “V” in VOTE stands for “Vocalize our message”

9. The “O” in VOTE stands for “Obtain political leverage”

10. The “T” in VOTE stands for “Triangulate our politicians”

11.  The “E” in Vote stands for “Enact enduring, model legislation”

12.  The end of our series is just the beginning!

The “FIX” part of our strategy walks through what we are driving within our Wisconsin State Senate and Assembly.
The “VOTE” part of our strategy walks through what we are driving with concerned Wisconsinites to rescue our republic.

According to a recent study from Pew Research in May, 2018, 77% of Americans believed that “there should be limits on the amount of money individuals and groups can spend on campaigns.”

That’s an overwhelming majority of people who care about the potentially corruptive influence of money when misused in politics: which brings us to the very first issue we are fighting – corruption.

So, the “F” in FIX stands for:

F – fight corruption via the Anti-Corruption Act

The Anti-Corruption Act is a model piece of legislation developed by top constitutional scholars at Represent.Us which focuses on 3 key areas that will have the greatest impact for “We, the People” to take back our political system:

  1. Fixing our broken elections
  2. Stopping political bribery
  3. Ending secret money

Fixing our broken elections involves:

  • Letting voters rank their candidates via Ranked Choice Voting
  • Ending gerrymandering
  • Letting all voters participate in open primaries
  • Changing how our elections are funded

Stopping political bribery involves:

  • Making it illegal for politicians to take money from lobbyists
  • Banning lobbyist bundling
  • Closing the revolving door
  • Preventing politicians from fundraising during working hours

Ending secret money involves:

  • Immediately disclosing political money online
  • Stopping donors from hiding behind secret money groups

You can learn much more detail about the Anti-Corruption Act here and here.

For Represent Us Wisconsin the Top 4 items around Anti-Corruption Act that we are driving are:

  1. Ranked Choice Voting
  2. Ending gerrymandering
  3. Money in politics
  4. Voter access

We’ll explain more about each of these Top 4 items over time but just wanted to introduce these terms to you so you can begin “processing” them in the background of your subconscious mind. Eventually, after we’ve discussed enough, you can see how these Top 4 items will help us achieve our mission to “Fix the System!”

The American Anti-Corruption Act

Next week we’ll dive into the “I” in our strategy and go further into how we’ll “Incentivize collaboration” amongst our politicians.

This week’s action

Please read this article that just came out in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel today regarding our friends at Democracy Found!  It advocates Ranked Choice Voting, one of the key elements in the Anti-Corruption Act:

Since we are a non-partisan group we are planning on visiting the State Conventions for both the Republicans and the Democrats this year.  We want to meet people across the political spectrum, build relationships in both parties and find those in each party who are also tired of hyper-partisanship and want to find better ways to reach across the aisle so we can actually solve problems for the people of Wisconsin.

This weekend is the Republican Convention and it will take place in Oshkosh.  For those of you who are up there we would love to connect with you for either a lunch appointment. Simply reply to this message if you would like to get together – we would love to meet you in person!
